Meet MTC Recruitment's newest member of the team, Adam Bird, our Operations Manager!
What was your first ever job?
I commenced working when I was in Year 10 at school as a trolley boy at Jewel Food Stores and moved to the freezer section shortly afterwards. I was told it was a promotion but I’m not sure about that!
What made you want to come and work at MTC?
After continuously working for 34 years, I was very fortunate to have been in a position to take a 12-month career break. I am someone motivated by challenge, a sense of purpose, and a genuine desire to make a difference. When the opportunity arose with MTC, I was inspired by Dale’s passion and this resonated with me, as did the history behind the business and its values which are very much aligned with my own. I hope to utilize my leadership, sales and relationship skills and experience to help the business achieve its goals and to make a positive difference to the lives of those whom I work with.
What are you responsible for in your role at MTC?
As Operations Manager I will be responsible for the overall management and growth of the Marrickville office. I will have a focus on inspiring, motivating, and empowering others to support a healthy workplace and a culture of high performance, innovation and personal success and happiness.
I will work to ensure strong profitability, targeted growth, operational efficiency, customer servicing, staff and community engagement across all areas of business operations.
Tell us a bit about your life outside of work.
I am a dedicated family man with three boys and a beautiful partner Caitlin whom I will be marrying in December this year. Our baby boy Oakley was only born on 15th May this year and is a little over 5 weeks old.
We enjoy watching my older boys Lachlan and Joshua play both rugby league and cricket and try to get to the beach when we can with our three dogs, Billy the Border Collie, Archie the Beagle and Nala the American Staffy.
We also enjoy boating and travelling and getting to the gym when time permits. A little extra sleep at the moment wouldn’t go astray either!
What are some of your goals (work or personal) for the year?
In a professional sense I hope to achieve all of what I have been employed to achieve, noting some of these will not happen overnight. Personally, I am looking forward my wedding later this year and becoming the best husband and father I can be.
Are there any TV shows, movies or books that you’ve seen or read recently that you’d recommend?
We don’t spend a lot of time watching TV however two shows that spring to mind are After Life with Ricky Gervais, a good blend of humour and drama, and also This is Us which is a drama series based on the lives and families of two parents in different time frames. There are lots of laughs and tears and I am a bit of a softy in that regard! Highly recommended for those who hold strong family ties and values.
Book-wise, I recently read Save Our Sleep which I would highly recommend to anyone with a newborn!
